This workshop will test and refine the Lucid diagnostics guide to pest whiteflies. Feedback from the workshop will be used to validate and finalise the diagnostic guide, which uses morphological characters to identify pest whiteflies species. The workshop will also briefly cover the taxonomy, biology and morphological characteristics used to identify pest whitefly species.

This workshop focused on the collection of samples, laboratory techniques for processing samples, identification using morphology and extraction of DNA. The workshop covered the recognition and identification of selected Ascomycete genera, biological aspects of culturable Ascomycete fungi including their host specificity, phylogeny, importance and life cycles and the quarantine risk associated with species; and include an introduction to the objectives and mode of operation of the ASEAN Regional Diagnostic Network.

The objectives of the ASEAN Forum was to review progress in enhancing diagnostic capacity in the ASEAN member countries (including progress through the ASEAN Regional Diagnostic Network Project), identify regional gaps, assess global and discipline-specific technical developments, re-assess needs and propose future directions.

The workshop covered how to identify species of Colletotrichum using morphology and extraction of DNA, analysis of DNA sequences and molecular data and interpretation of all available diagnostic information, how to report findings and the quarantine risk associated with species of Colletotrichum.

This workshop focuses on basic techniques for collection, preparation and preservation of specimens and identification using morphology, morphometrics and DNA sequences. The workshop covers biological aspects of fruit flies; the quarantine risk associated with different species of fruit flies; options available for management of this risk; and include an introduction to the objectives and mode of operation of the ASEAN Regional Diagnostic Network.
